Peppermint to cool and uplift our spirits By Cindy Saylor, Peppermint is easy to grow, delightfully aromatic, uplifting to our spirit and cooling when we are overheated.
A cup of Peppermint tea is beloved in many cultures and traditions. In these times when our hearts and minds are often stressed and confused, Peppermint helps to cool down our body and over agitated minds. Sipping a glass of iced peppermint tea on a hot summer day literally brings down the temperature of your body and mind. Simultaneously the heady aromatics of Peppermint rejuvenate and uplift our hearts and spirits.
Peppermint is easy to grow and delightful in the garden, a pot or window box. Peppermint loves moist, rich soil and sun. In Southern California some partial shade is helpful, as our hot days can be a bit much. The roots spread by runners and can do so rapidly. So if planting in the ground make sure your Peppermint is contained. Or just let her run wild and fill your garden with her heady aroma!
How to enjoy Peppermint:
Peppermint Sun Tea – Place 1 tea bag or 1 tablespoon of dried or fresh Peppermint per 8-16 ounces of water into a jar. Less water makes a stronger brew, so customize for your palate. Add cool water and place in a warm sunny spot. Allow to infuse for a few hours or all day. Enjoy iced with your feet up!
Peppermint Foot Bath – Make a batch of Peppermint tea, enough to cover your feet for a foot bath. Soak your feet, add some epsom salts if you have them. Allow the soothing aromatics of Peppermint to relax your body and mind.
Peppermint Tea for Tummy & Heartburn – After a meal, if you feel uncomfortable or feel some indigestion coming on, make a cup of Peppermint tea. Peppermint will soothe and relax your digestion. Peppermint tea helps with an upset tummy, heartburn, gas and belching.
Peppermint Cautions: Peppermint can be too strong for some folks, try Spearmint instead. If Peppermint aggravates any symptom, discontinue use.
