A Reunion and Healing For Our Community

WorldBeat Cultural Center will be celebrating its 42nd Annual Celebration with 4 of the 7 days of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is an African American Holiday celebrated from the 26th of December to the 1st of January. Kwanzaa was created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 to celebrate and reaffirm family, community, and culture.

Kaba Hiawatha Kamene was born in new york with the name, Booker Taliaferro Coleman, Jr. he is a Consultant, teacher, administrator, staff developer, and curriculum writer. had been an educator in the Bronx N.Y. since 1979. after retiring from the NYC department of education in 2009 Kaba became a consultant to academic institutions, educators, community members interested in teaching, and parents. He has also been a part of the following documentaries “1804 Hidden History of Haiti”, “Hidden Colors”, “Elementary Genocide 3”, “Out of Darkness” and the “Black Friday” documentary series.

In addition, each day will feature Ceremonial candle lighting and libation with live Drumming Kwanzaa, Poetry reading by Johnnierenee Nia Nelson, and Karamu – the traditional feast ( FREE vegetarian African American soul food).
