Due to continued restrictions by the State and City WBC has decided to postpone the temporary reopening day for after Labor Day. We will continue our online programming and plan for on online virtual exhibit opening with a new name: “Afro-Mexican Heritage, A Fight for Recognition”. Classes are also expected to be postponed until after Labor Day. The Cafe will continue to be open for curbside pickup and online ordering.

There is a scheduled soft reopening date of August 5th, 2020 for members and donors. It will be by RSVP and will be scheduled according to demand. The opening will feature 2 new exhibits: “From Juneteenth to Tulsa to George Floyd” and “Afro-Mexican Heritage: African Resistance to Enslavement in Latin America”. The public is invited to visit at limited capacity for the weekend. Limited outdoor seating for the cafe will be available.

As the City, State and nation prepare for a resurgence of COVID-19 we have decided to take precaution in reopening WorldBeat Center for visitors. Your health and safety is our priority. Our community members have been very supportive and we will be continuing our online programming. Our cafe will continue to be open for call in pick up orders and online delivery. WBC will begin reopening by activating the outdoors for outdoor classes and take-out eating.
WBC’s soft opening is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5th, 2020 for donors and members and we’ll be featuring two new exhibits “From Juneteenth to Tulsa to George Floyd” and “Afro-Mexican Heritage: African Resistance to Enslavement in Latin America”. Each exhibit will feature a virtual opening night with special guests and our curators. Upon opening we will be open at limited capacity and for limited hours, Tuesday- Sunday 11am – 4:30pm.

These extraordinary times call for creative thinking especially for community based organizations. We will continue to keep our mission alive and will be bringing you music, art, dance, culture and sustainability to your homes through social media and live webinars. On the other hand, in order to help supplement WorldBeat Center’s monthly operations we have decided to open our Cafe for delivery only using our following partners – Postmates – DoorDash – UberEats – GrubHub. We will have a limited menu including NEW superfoods, smoothies and antiviral tea that will help boost your immune system.
We are following the recommended San Diego County food handling guidelines and will be sanitizing thoroughly throughout the day with your health and ours in mind. We will be open on weekends starting April 3rd, Friday-Sunday, 11AM-5PM until further notice.

We are monitoring updates from the state and county. For now we have decided to continue to stay closed until the end of April so scheduled all classes, field trips, workshops and events are cancelled until further notice. We appreciate your understanding and will keep you updated.
