who-we-are

As a non-profit multi-cultural arts organization we are dedicated to promoting, presenting & preserving the African Diaspora & Indigenous cultures of the world through Music, Art, Dance, Multi-Media Arts, Education, and STEAM Research. We are the home of 101.1FM KVIB, a low-power FM station operated by WorldBeat Center and Positive Hope. We are located in beautiful Balboa Park in the heart of San Diego, California. Through consciousness raising the WorldBeat Center promotes peace within our San Diego community by providing on-going programs and services that nurture the spirit of children, the elderly, and everyone in between. Our main goal is then to create unity within diversity.

Sustainable Building

The WorldBeat Center received LEED Silver Certification in 2012 largely due to its energy and water efficiency efforts, installation of Solatube Daylight Systems and with assistance from the Green Assistance Program (GAP) through the San Diego Green Building Council. The WorldBeat Center staff is excited to attempt LEED Platinum during the recertification process in 2019.

A Winter Solstice Greeting from Makeda Cheatom

Reggae’s Modern Day Prophet, Vaughn Benjamin

Reggae’s Modern Day Prophet, Vaughn Benjamin

Beloveds, this photo came up on my Facebook memory. He is so mystic. Here I and I were in New York receiving our award from the DARC Foundation for our contributions to the RastafarI Reggae community. He was so funny when he was hugging me, he said, "Don't worry...

Teaching Chinese at Summer Camp

In July 2019, I came to San Diego as a cultural visitor and volunteer, and was very honored to study and communicate here. I have to say that I saw many Amercian children who were very interested in Chinese culture at the WorldBeat Center, so I gave the children a...

Noise Pollution

Noise Pollution

What Can We Do About Noise Pollution?   Imagine how quiet our planet was just a little over a 100 years ago. Noise pollution is relatively new to our environment; a 20th century human creation exasperated with the transportation boom. I’ve developed a habit of...
